Tyler Brown was already intrigued by the idea of continuing his football career close to home heading into a visit to North Texas this weekend.
What the Aubrey wide receiver/defensive back saw once he arrived on campus led one of the top players in the Denton area finalize his decision to commit to UNT.
Brown announced his choice late Saturday and spoke about the reasons behind it with the Denton Record-Chronicle on Sunday afternoon.
!!!! pic.twitter.com/DcrG7hXCxe I trust the coaching staff, and I will get to play close to home, Brown said.
I have a big base of support right here.
UNT recruited Brown, who is 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, as a cornerback.
Brown played all over the field for Aubrey last season, when he led the Chaparrals to the third round of the playoffs.
Brown was the MVP of District 5-4A II and the DRCs Co-Impact Player of the Year.
He has picked up where he left off this season while catching 19 passes for 456 yards and eight touchdowns in five games.
Brown, who is rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports , is sitting at No.
93 in The Dallas Morning News list of the top 100 recruits in the area.
Brown also excels in track and field.
He won the Class 4A 200-meter dash as a junior in addition to being a member of Aubreys 4x400-meter relay team that won the state title and broke the state record in the event that was set in 1993.
Hes just different and makes everything look so easy, Aubrey coach Keith Ivy said.
I have zero doubt that he will be a huge impact player at the next level and have an outstanding career at UNT.
They got a steal with Tyler.
UTSA, Texas State, UTEP and Stephen F.
Austin also offered Brown a scholarship.
UNT director of recruiting Justin Owens, defensive coordinator Matt Caponi and cornerbacks coach DAndre Payne all played a role in recruiting Brown.
Bryan Kegans, UNTs assistant head coach who doubles as the Mean Greens strength and conditioning coach, also made an impression on Brown, who said he has a particularly good relationship with Caponi.
I really enjoyed my visit, Brown said.
The culture and atmosphere at North Texas are good.
There is a brotherhood among the players.
They have each others backs.
Brown plans on remaining at Aubrey through the end of his senior season in the spring so that he can compete during the track season.
He credits his growth as a football player in part to his time competing in track.
I developed elite speed, Brown said.
That speed will translate to the college level.
Brown is the 10th player to commit to UNT in the class of 2025.
The Mean Greens class is rated ninth in the league by 247Sports.
