BUFFALO, N.Y.

Did you catch the 'Surprise in the Sky' over Buffalo on Wednesday night? A drone show lit up downtown Buffalo shortly past 9 p.m.

Wednesday.

The reason for it stemmed from an announcement made 11 hours earlier, when the Buffalo Sabres announced a 10-year extension of the arena's naming rights deal with KeyBank.

The new contract begins with the 2026-27 season and will keep the KeyBank Center name in place through the 2035-36 season.

To celebrate, they planned a "Surprise in the Sky" over KeyBank Center.

The 10-minute show featured images related to the Sabres, Bandits, and concerts.

"Its a way to wrap up a day of celebration and say thank you to the Buffalo community," KeyBank Center said in a statement.

2 On Your Side was able to watch the show from the KeyBank Center ramp.

KeyBank will also have signage on the Sabres' road helmets, starting this season.

KeyBank also announced a new HocKey Assists Community Program.

It's an initiative that aims to support communities across Western New York, with a focus on educational outreach, small business growth, and neighborhood engagement.

"We are thankful for the support of KeyBank over the course of the last decade and look forward to the continued relationship with such a valued partner of the Buffalo Sabres," Sabres owner, CEO, and president Terry Pegula said.

"We take great pride in our home arena bearing the name of an organization with such strong roots in the Western New York community and feel this partnership will continue to drive community impact for many years to come.".
