"What a great opportunity for Sam and what an incredible story," Golden Eagles men's basketball head coach Jeff Reinert wrote to the Times-News in a text message Friday.
"A young man who his family came to America and he worked his way up to earn a full-ride scholarship to a 4 year level.
We couldn't be more proud of Sam and all the hard work he's put in over the past two years at CSI." Lupumba redshirted as a freshman in 2023-24 before earning a role as a reserve big man this past season.
He appeared in 22 games and made two starts, averaging 3.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in 6.9 minutes per game.
CSI finished the year 22-10, falling in the Scenic West Athletic Conference championship and missing the NJCAA National Tournament for the second straight year.
A familiar foe likely ended College of Southern Idahos season.
Before arriving at CSI, Lupumba was first team All-Great Basin Conference as a senior at Canyon Ridge.
He joins a Ferrum squad that finished 17-9 overall and 9-7 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
The Panthers joined the Conference Carolinas for the coming athletic year.
Lupumba is the seventh member from last year's Golden Eagles squad to join a four-year program for 2025-26.
Freshman Amarco Doyle previously committed to Oakland University in December but instead returned to his native Australia in the spring.
