2 x $1.1M https://t.co/a3jusGjhaa Elliotte Friedman (@FriedgeHNIC) July 18, 2025 Anaheim Ducks Re-Sign Defenceman Drew Helleson to Bolster Blueline Depth The contract is a two-year deal, worth an average annual value of $1.1 million.
The Anaheim Ducks are bringing back right-shot defenceman Drew Helleson for the 202526 season.
Helleson is coming off his strongest professional campaign to date.
He suited up for 56 games with Anaheim during the 202425 season, recording four goals and nine assists while averaging over 17 minutes per night.
He played well defensively and saw time on the penalty kill, carving out a reliable role in the Ducks third pairing.
The 23-year-old was originally drafted 47th overall by the Colorado Avalanche in 2019 and joined the Ducks as part of the trade that sent Josh Manson to Colorado in 2022.
After signing his entry-level deal later that spring, Helleson spent most of two seasons with the AHLs San Diego Gulls before breaking through to the NHL roster this past year.
While he did see 12 AHL games in 202425, the bulk of his contributions came at the NHL level.
Helleson brings calm puck movement, defensive zone reads, and a much-needed right-handed shot to a young Anaheim blueline.
What This Means for the Anaheim Duckz Hellesons return gives the Ducks much-needed depth on the right side of their defence.
With several prospects still developing , Helleson could again factor into the opening night lineup.
Hell be in the mix for a regular third-pairing role, unless Anaheim opts to promote younger names like Tristan Luneau and Olen Zellweger into full-time NHLers.
