Olympian Lindsey returns home to Rock Island

Courtney Lindsey is fast.
The 25-year-old from Rock Island made his Olympics debut at the 2024 Paris Olympics in August as a substitute, after earning a spot on the 4x100 meter relay team.
After a busy summer abroad, Lindsey returned home recently and was a part of Rock Island High School homecoming festivities, meeting and greeting his many supporters in the Quad Cities.
It is good to be home, Lindsey said.
It is good being around the school spirit and around my family, seeing my family and seeing everyone.
It has been fun, and I love seeing the support for the school and I love it.
It is great.
Back in early May, Lindsey ran a 37.40 in the 4x100 meter relay at the World Athletics Relays in Nassau, Bahamas, which gave the group of Christian Coleman, Fred Kerley, Kyree King and Lindsay an automatic qualification to Paris.
Lindsey was not on the heavily-favored U.S.
team that was disqualified in the medal race when they were unable to successfully complete the first pass of the baton.
Still, it was an experience Lindsey will never forget.
Paris was nice; seeing the Olympics, being in an Olympic stadium, seeing the crowd, the environment and the culture, he said.
It was pretty amazing.
Just like most U.S.
athletes who traveled to the French capital, Lindsey was part of the Opening Ceremonies and enjoyed every moment of it.
It was crazy.
I couldnt really wrap my head around it, but I just was with legends like LeBron James, Kevin, Durant and people who have been here before and won NBA titles and stuff like that on the boat, Lindsey said.
Just being around all the other athletes, the skateboarders and the other Olympians was an amazing experience.
After the month-long stay in Paris, Lindsey concluded his track season with several stops across Europe.
In the Internationales Stadionfest (ISTAF) competition in Berlin, Germany on Sept.
1, Lindsey ran a 9.99 in the 100-meter dash.
His career-best in the event is 9.89 seconds.
He then ran a 20.17 in the 200-meter dash at the 2024 Diamond League in Zurich, Switzerland, just four days later.
On Sept.
8, Lindsey posted faster times in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes at the Zagreb Meeting and Hanzek, an annual three-day event in the Croatian capital city of Zagreb.
Lindsey had a 9.97 in the 100 meters and 20.13 in the 200.
Lindsey, who starred collegiately at Texas Tech before beginning his pro career, finished the season at the Memorial Van Damme yearly track and field event in Brussels, Belgium on Sept.
14.
He was competing in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 20.21 second.
Post-Olympics, I did a European tour with various meets, and wrapped up my season, Lindsey said.
It was a good tour.
I cannot say it was my best effort.
It was a good effort.
It put me in a position for next year in the World Championships in Tokyo in 2025.
Hell enjoy some down time now after a hectic season, which included watching Rock Islands homecoming football game on Sept.
27.
I did not watch too much football in high school when I was in high school, but I am always rooting for Rocky.
Always, Lindsey said.
I love the support that I have received coming back home to Rock Island.
