Ladd McConkey has already outplayed his draft position for the Chargers and the next step is taking the leap into stardom in 2025

Los Angeles Chargers WR Ladd McConkey was one of the most exciting rookies to watch last season.

After being selected with the 34th pick in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, he went on to lead the Chargers in receiving and put himself in the same breath as other impressive rookie wideouts like Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr.

He finished fourth amongst rookies in receiving yards, only behind Thomas, Nabers, and TE Brock Bowers.

He impressed our staff at A to Z Sports enough to already find himself inside our recent top 20 WR rankings ahead of the 2025 season.

Just a second-year wideout, McConkey has quickly proven to be a legitimate WR1 for the Bolts.

The Chargers' wideout was really the sole impressive wide receiver for much of last season, but defenses still struggled to slow him down.

His inside/outside versatility also gives him a nudge over some of the other receivers in this tier that he probably beat out.

McConkeys consistency was among the best in the entire NFL, and I wont be shocked to see him rise into the top 12 of this sort of exercise by next offseason.

He was one of the best offensive players on the Chargers roster last season, and he finished with 82 catches, 1,149 yards, and seven touchdowns.

He seems to be poised to become QB Justin Herbert's best friend on the field, and it should result in him having a very successful career in Los Angeles.

The WR room added even more talent his offseason by drafting Tre Harris in the second round, and the hope will be that McConkey and Harris can complement each other perfectly and form one of the best young duos in the NFL.

For this year at least, McConkey will need to be the leader in that room and take his game to yet another level.

If he can be a 1,200-yard WR, for example, it wouldn't sound like much of an improvement (just 51 more than last season), but it would go a long way to helping Herbert and the Chargers offense elevate this season.
