Blue Jays listed as possible fit for $39.5 million former All-Star | Sporting News

The Toronto Blue Jays went on a 10-game winning streak and pulled ahead of the New York Yankees in the American League East.
They now are up 2 1/2 games on the Bronx Bombers.
The team has been clicking on all cylinders lately and will likely be an aggressive buyer at the trade deadline.
There are certainly needs that must be addressed.
For Toronto, the biggest need is a starting pitcher.
Fortunately, there are plenty of arms that will be on the market this summer.
On The Athletic's latest big board of the Top 40 trade candidates, Boston Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito was ranked 36th out of them all.
The Blue Jays were considered a fit.
"Giolito has turned things around in the past month.
Seemingly gaining strength and consistency in his first year back from 2024 elbow surgery, Giolito has been excellent for the past month, cutting his ERA below 4.00 and consistently giving the Red Sox six-plus innings." Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp Giolito missed all of 2024 due to an elbow injury after joining the Red Sox on a two-year, $39.5 million contract.
Since returning, he has performed well.
The 30-year-old right-hander is 6-1 with a 3.36 ERA in 13 starts with Boston this year.
He opted into the second year of his deal after being out all of last year.
It's important to note that trades within the same division are exceptionally rare, but not impossible.
Toronto could certainly benefit from having Giolito in the rotation, especially after his return to his old form.
A lot depends on the Red Sox, however.
They have won six consecutive games and are tied for the final Wild Card spot.
But if they start to struggle again, Giolito is a solid rental starter that they could turn into a trade piece.
We'll see where Toronto lands in their search for pitching.
