Jones receiver Larry Miles, who transferred from West Orange this summer, is a big reason why Jones is sitting at No.

1 in the Sentinel's Orlando area Super 16 Coaches Poll.

(Chris Hays/Orlando Sentinel) Larry Miles switched high schools ahead of his junior season and hit the jets.

The wide receiver quickly became a star last season at Jones High School in Orlando, Florida, where he eclipsed 1,200 receiving yards and scored 12 touchdowns.

Miles tenacity and play-making ability placed him on the radar of many colleges.

Nebraska joined the race this summer and made a convincing push for his pledge.

The three-star prospect announced his commitment to Nebraska footballs 2026 recruiting class on Tuesday.

He chose the Huskers over Pittsburgh and Kentucky.

Its a moment the pass-catcher had been working toward for years, and yet, to Miles' high school coach, the commitment feels like just another step for a player youre going to see playing on (NFL) Sundays.

Jones coach Elijah Williams said if an outsider watched Miles practiced, theyd assume he was a player fighting to work up the depth chart not a star whod already gotten there.

He has that drive that takes you to the next level, Williams said of Miles.

Some kids are okay with just catching the ball, but he catches it like hes not going to get the ball ever again in his life.

Thats how he catches the ball, runs his routes, studies and plays the game as if hes never going to get an opportunity again.

Miles played two seasons at West Orange, including a sophomore campaign in 2023 in which he caught 40 passes and scored five touchdowns.

His junior year at Jones is when he found his next gear, though.

As Miles helped lead the team to an undefeated regular season that culminated in a state championship loss, Williams found himself becoming more and more impressed with the wide receiver.

Williams listed Miles football IQ, footwork and body movement as three of his biggest strengths on the field.

He also said that the wideout not only understands the offense at a high level but is also capable of coaching his teammates and correcting their assignments.

While all wide receivers want to catch the ball, Miles has also embraced the challenge of facing defenses that key in on stopping him.

Hes either going to get double covered or hell be covered by their top guy, and he fits the bill every time," Williams said of Miles.

The kid doesnt miss; I can say Ive never seen him have a bad day catching the ball or running his routes.

His energy level, his effort and his attention to detail, hes always on.

There was little that opponents could do to stop Miles during a season in which he averaged 17.7 yards per catch.

A 5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect, Miles often utilizes his breakaway speed by racking up yards after the catch.

Slot wideout is the spot that likely awaits him in college, a position where NU coaches can harness Miles unique skillset.

If he catches that ball, hes not even looking at the first person because its not even going to matter; that person is gonna miss because hes already gone, Williams said.

Hes playing chess and theyre playing checkers when hes got that ball.

(Because of) his mind, his agility and his all-around skills, hes that guy.

It will be up to first-year Husker assistant coach Daikiel Shorts to further Miles potential after securing the players commitment.

A busy month of dialogue between Shorts and Miles began early in June, when the three-star pass-catcher first took an unofficial visit to Lincoln.

There, Nebraska coaches formally offered him a scholarship and invited Miles back for an official visit later in the month one that ultimately produced two wide receiver commits in Nalin Scott and Miles.

Nebraska's 2026 recruiting class now contains 12 committed players overall.

Miles also spent part of the most recent weekend catching passes from 2027 Husker quarterback commit Trae Taylor during a 7-on-7 tournament played in Miami.

Even after securing his future with the Huskers, there were no days off for the high-level wide receiver commit one of many reasons why big things could be in store for Miles as a collegiate pass-catcher.

Theres some guys that just run routes and catch, but hes a great football player because he knows the game and wants to learn, Williams said.

He wants to dominate.

Hes not catching the ball for a first down or to get a couple yards.

Whenever he catches the ball, he is trying to score and change the football game.
