Virginia Wesleyan Athletic Hall of Fame induction set for Saturday night at Batten Center

COLLEGES Virginia Wesleyan will induct its 2024 Athletic Hall of Fame class at 6 tonight at the Batten Center on campus in Virginia Beach.

Benefactor Bob Aston, the executive chairman of TowneBank and the TowneBank Foundation, and the national runner-up 2006-07 mens basketball team will be inducted.

So will the following athletes: **four-time mens lacrosse All-American Josh Currier (2013-16), who leads VWU all-time with 353 points; **All-American softball pitcher Kristina Karagiorgis (2012-15), who was 66-16 with a 1.30 earned-run average; **former soccer goalkeeper Scott Morgenroth (1993-96), who was a second-team All-American in 95 and leads the Marlins all-time with 32 shutouts; **and DJ Woodmore (2010-14), a two-time first-team All-American in mens basketball who scored 1,957 points as a Marlin.

COLLEGE WOMENS BASKETBALL Elizabeth Kitley will have her Virginia Tech jersey retired on Jan.

19, when the Hokies host ACC foe Louisville.

Kitley, whose career ended with an anterior cruciate ligament injury late last season, is considered the Hokies all-time top player.

She was drafted 24th overall by the Las Vegas Aces but is no longer on their roster.

COLLEGE WOMENS GOLF Old Dominion held sixth place among 14 teams after one round of the Monarchs fourth annual Evie Odom Invitational at Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach.

The 54-hole event goes through Sunday.

The Monarchs top four combined for an 11-over-par 291.

The College of Charleston and Sacramento State shared the lead at 2 over.

Notre Dames Maddy Bante and Charlestons Emma Schimpf were tied for the individual lead at 2-under 68, while Barbara Car paced ODU at 70, sharing fifth place.

COLLEGE WOMENS SOCCER Mia Oliaro and Devin Lynch each had a goal and an assist in the second half No.

PRO HOCKEY The Norfolk Admirals signed four players to pro tryout contracts: defensemen Bryce Martin, Kyler Matthews and Ryan Lieth, plus forward Reid Perepeluk.

Martin, 27, played for Adirondack and Savannah in the ECHL last season.

Matthews, 26, played two seasons with the Southern Professional Hockey Leagues Knoxville team, on which he was guided by current Admirals coach Jeff Carr in 2021-22.

Lieth, 25, had a plus-11 rating last season with the SPHLs Fayetteville Marksmen.

Perepeluk, 24, signed with Admirals in August 2022 but did not make any appearances with Norfolk that season..
