The Boston Red Sox are still within striking distance of a postseason berth, but they may be heading in the wrong direction.

If they continue to struggle, they may be willing to trade Jarren Duran.

Not only has Duran seen a dip in production from his All-Star season last year, but he may be the odd man out in the Red Sox outfield.

Roman Anthony and Ceddanne Rafaela are not going to be traded.

Anthony is the top prospect in baseball and Rafaela has already signed an extension.

Duran is older and has less club control than Wilyer Abreu as well.

If the Red Sox fall out of contention, Duran will quickly draw interest from contenders who need an outfielder.

While he may not be as good as last year, he is still making an impact.

He has an American League-best eight triples and 15 stolen bases.

He is slashing .257/.309/.406.

ESPN's Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan tabbed Duran as the second-best trade candidate and listed six teams that could take him off the Red Sox's hands.

The San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Guardians, Kansas City Royals, San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies were all tabbed as teams that could be interested in Duran.

Even if the Red Sox are still in the postseason hunt, trading DUran, who may not have a long-term future with the team, could help the Red Sox upgrade their roster.

The Red Sox need pitching, and trading Duran to an outfield-needy contender could yield them some help in the rotation.

The Philadelphia Phillies may be willing to trade one of their many quality starting pitchers to add Duran.

Even with his struggles, he would be an upgrade to them.

He is under club control through 2028 and would be able to help a playoff team.

Trading him in the middle of a postseason race would not be easy for the Red Sox, but it may be a necessary move to improve pitching and end their outfield logjam.
