WNBA star Nika Muhl suffers horrifying knee injury and leaves court on stretcher in emotional Super Cup scenes

NIKA MUHL was left grimacing in pain after suffering a knee injury while playing in the FIBA SuperCup.

The Seattle Storm rookie had to be stretchered off the court after appearing to suffer a major injury to her left knee.

The 23-year-old was starring for Besiktas JK in the FIBA SuperCup Women title game against Fenerbahce SK in Turkey on Thursday.

The incident came just three minutes into the third quarter, with Muhl falling to the floor and seen writhing in pain as she held her left knee.

She was heard repeatedly yelling: "Oh my god," before screaming "don't touch it." Muhl was later stretchered off the court with her arm covering her face.

Arseven said on social media: "Today, Nika's injury has ruined all our morale.

I wish her a speedy recovery." Fenerbahce was leading the match 51-46 at the time of the horror injury.

They went on to win the game 79-63 to become back-to-back SuperChamps.

Most read in Basketball Muhl had put up 11 points, three rebounds, nine assists and two steals.

She returned to the team bench towards the end of the game with a white bandage around her knee, which was also seen in a post-game team photo.

Muhl's Seattle team-mate Gabby Williams - who was starring for Fenerbahce - headed over with her Fenerbahce team-mates to hug her after the game and her wish a speedy recovery.

The match was originally scheduled to take place on Wednesday but was pushed back a day after fans threw firecrackers on the court.

Croatian point guard, Muhl was the 14th overall pick in the 2024 Draft.

She had made her name with UConn in the college system.

THE 2024 WNBA season features 12 teams with the regular-season running from May 14 to September 9.

Each team plays 40 regular-season games - four against five teams from the same conference and two teams from the other conference, and three games against the remaining four teams.

The top eight teams in the league standings qualify for the playoffs - regardless of what conference they're in.

The playoffs will use a best-of-three format in the first round while the semifinals and WNBA Finals are best of five.

This season also includes a month-long break for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The Las Vegas Aces are defending back-to-back WNBA champions.

Paige Bueckers , who starred with Muhl at UConn wrote on social media: "Nothing my twin cant overcome.

ACL injuries of the nature Muhl suffered typically take between six and nine months to recover from, though it will naturally take even longer to see her ready to return to competitive action..
