Sixers' VJ Edgecombe has summer goals, describes himself as a teammate

CAMDEN, N.J.

-- The Philadelphia 76ers made a selection on Wednesday in Round 1 of the 2025 NBA draft in the form of Baylor star VJ Edgecombe.

The Sixers, after much deliberation and debate about what they should do with the No.

3 selection, believe they found the right guy to add to the roster and move forward with their title quest.Edgecombe is a maniacal worker who has a willingness to get in the gym and work as hard as ever in order to take the next steps in his game.

He averaged 15.0 points and 2.1 steals per game while at Baylor and is looking to move forward as he prepares for the summer league in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas."Just getting to know the whole team," Edgecombe said on Friday.

"Just building relationships with them.

Ill be playing with them.

So just getting to know the whole team and thats the first thing I need to do."Edgecombe will be seeing other top prospects in the summer league.

Players that he has competed against in various leagues and tournaments and in college so the summer league will be an exciting time for him as he gets ready to compete and make things happen going forward."I know that theyve gotten better and Ive gotten better, but Im just looking forward to playing alongside my teammates," he explained.

"Im not worried about the opponents or whoevers on the (other) team.

Im just happy to meet new teammates, get to know everybody, continue building relationships.

And hopefully, win the summer league."His teammates.

Edgecombe appears that he just wants to be a good teammate and even maybe a leader at such a young age.

When asked to describe himself as a teammate, the rookie guard took a breath and gave a confident answer."I feel like Im someone fun to be around," he stated.

"I just always want to meet new people.

Its a good thing to have relationships with them on and off the court.
