Did you hear what the Washington Wizards' first-round selection had to say about the Commanders? The Wizards, owning the sixth pick of the 2025 NBA draft, chose Texas sharpshooter Tre Johnson.

What little I know about it, it sounds like Johnson (6-5) can really shoot the ball, so perhaps Johnson is going to be a good selection over the next several years for the Wizards. But for the purpose of this story, we are more interested in the 21st selection of Wednesday night's first round.

Out of the University of Illinois, the Wizards selected Will Riley.

Known for his shooting as well, Riley was the Sixth Man of the Year in the Big Ten.Playing the wing, Riley measures at 6-foot-8, weighing 185 pounds.

So, he has a slim build, reminiscent of Jayden Daniels being drafted, with much speculation about how much Daniels actually weighed, given that he chose to skip the weigh-in at the NFL Combine. What does Riley know about Washington, DC? Well, he had this moment Wednesday night shortly after being drafted by the Wizards.

"The first time I visited was when I went to work out for them," began Riley.

It's a great city; it's a sports city in a lot of ways." It indeed is a sports city.

So I wonder what Riley has been told about the professional sports in the District of Columbia?Riley continued, "They got, I'm pretty sure, three sports.

They got baseball, basketball and hockey.

I don't know if they have any other sports."He doesn't know that our nation's capital has an NFL team? He is not familiar with the history of the Washington Redskins.

He doesn't know about the NFL's Washington Commanders.Did you catch Riley's first interview after being selected by the Wizards? He told of his mom playing hockey when she was growing up.

Riley mentioned his uncle made it to the NHL as well, saying, "I grew up in a hockey family." This is increasingly understandable when you consider that Riley is from Canada. There are no NFL teams in Canada, but there is plenty of hockey.

In fact, Riley didn't waste any time saying he was going to be an Alex Ovechkin fan.

So, he knows about Ovechkin's long, storied career and his achievement of becoming the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer.Riley saw that the town was passionate about sports; he can only imagine what he will think about the passion of the fan base next season as he learns more about the Commanders and Jayden Daniels.

He will learn quickly that not only does Washington have another professional sports team.

He will learn THAT team is THE team in Washington. This article originally appeared on Commanders Wire: Wizards' draft pick had a good reason not to know about Commanders.
