Sixers draft history: Matisse Thybulle selected after trade up in 2019

With the NBA draft right around the corner, now is the time to look at some past drafts and see what the Philadelphia 76ers have done in their history.

The Sixers have selected some big-time players in the past who have become an important part of the fabric of the franchise's history.This edition turns to the 2019 draft as the Sixers continued to look to build their team for the future.

They held the No.

24 pick, but when considering all of the talented wings in the East at the time, the Sixers felt they needed an athletic perimeter defender.

They traded up to No.

20 in the draft to select Washington's Matisse Thybulle.Thybulle quickly developed into a great defensive player in Philadelphia.

He averaged 1.1 blocks in the 2020-21 season and made some strides as he was able to slow down a lot of the league's best perimeter players.

The issue was that he was never able to develop into a consistent 3-point shooter.

The Sixers sent him to the Portland Trail Blazers at the deadline in 2023 in a 4-team deal that brought Jalen McDaniels to Philadelphia.Overall, Thybulle played 245 games for the Sixers across 3.5 seasons averaging 4.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 0.8 blocks.

He averaged 1.1 blocks in both the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons.

He has begun to show improvement in his 3-point shot for the Blazers as he has shot 36.8% from deep in 102 games for Portland since.
