Chris Broussard thinks the New York Knicks should get a coach who was just with them recently over their other options.

The New York Knicks are expanding their hunt for their next head coach rapidly.

After the Knicks dismissed Tom Thibodeau , they want a coach who can lead them to a championship.

A lot of names have been floated, but the Knicks seem enamored with Jason Kidd .

And up until recently, the Mavericks didnt reject the possibility of Kidd leaving .

Brian Windhorst mentioned that the Knicks can trade for Jason Kidd , something the Milwaukee Bucks did a few years ago.

But this plan isnt one that they should pursue, according to Chris Broussard.

Rather, they should go after a man who was on their coaching staff just a season ago.

Look, Leon Rose does not talk to the media on or off the record, so I think he certainly got some things planned that people may not know about.

But if they actually fired Thibodeau and your plan was, were gonna go get Jason Kidd, were gonna go get Ime Udoka.

How are you gonna surefire get a coach from another team? Hopefully, that was not their Plan A because that is ridiculous.

I know the reports are that Dolan is involved in this.

That is not a good look.

I dont mind them moving on from Thibs.

I would not have done it at this point.

But I think it could work, and theres rationale behind it.

Youve got to get the right guy, and the right guy might not be the biggest name out there.

I like a Johnnie Bryant, who was an assistant with the Cavs this year, four years as an assistant with the Knicks under Thibs, he could bring that Kenny Atkinson kind of system to the Knicks and get more guys involved, not just a one and two man show.

Well see if they do that.

Hes not a big name.

And if Dolan is looking for a big name, they probably wouldnt go that route, but that Dolan should not be involved at all in this decision.

Ime Udoka, Chris Finch , and Jason Kidd off limits for Leon Rose Broussard lambasted the Knicks plan to approach Udoka and Kidd as ridiculous.

But even if the Knicks were to ignore him, they have been ruled out of landing either of them.

Shams Charania reported that the Knicks approached the Rockets and Timberwolves recently for permission to interview Ime Udoka and Chris Finch.

Both teams turned the Knicks down.

While the Knicks havent made an approach for Jason Kidd yet, Shams added that the Mavericks are likely to deny the Knicks as well.

The Knicks have not requested permission for Mavericks coach Jason Kidd as of Tuesday night, but sources tell ESPN that the Mavericks would reject them.

Bryant might be their best option, given his experience with the Knicks and his recent stint away from them.

However, they could look internally and promote Rick Brunson from associate head coach to head coach.

This would also help keep Jalen Brunson, their best player, happy for a long time.

Of course, Michael Malone is an option the Knicks can target.

But as things stand, the Knicks havent seriously considered Malone .

This might be a mistake, as Malone is perhaps the most successful coach available right now, having won an NBA championship just two seasons ago with the Denver Nuggets .

It will be interesting to see who the Knicks ultimately end up hiring.

Them not being able to land an already-occupied head coach might be a blessing in disguise for them in the long run.
