Should the Seahawks pursue Jaire Alexander?

There is rarely a down moment in the NFL, as new developments are always bound to occur during the offseason.
This week started off no different, as it was announced early on Monday morning the Green Bay Packers are releasing cornerback Jaire Alexander after seven seasons in Title Town.
The Packers had been trying to work out a potential trade, but failed to find a suitable partner.
For the first time in his career at age 28, Alexander will be seeking his new NFL home.
Of course, one cannot help but immediately wonder....
should the Seattle Seahawks pursue the two-time Pro Bowler? One of the more underrated needs on this roster is cornerback depth.
Yes, Devon Witherspoon and Riq Woolen are as talented a duo as any in the league.
But after those two? It gets a little thin with the likes of Josh Jobe, Nehemiah Pritchett and Shemar Jean-Charles.
It's why the Seahawks have met multiple times with their former draft pick Shaquill Griffin.
Signing a player of Alexander's caliber would go a long way to boosting cornerback depth.
When healthy, Alexander is as good as anyone at his position.
However, when is the operative word here.
In his seven seasons in the NFL, Alexander has played in less than half of the available games three times, including the last two consecutive years with seven games played each.
Alexander missed the final seven games in 2024 due to a knee injury, which eventually forced him to get surgery.
There is also a little "buyer beware" energy with Alexander.
In 2023, he was suspended one game by the Packers in Week 17 for "conduct detrimental to the team." What did he do? The week prior, he participated in the overtime coin toss when he was not a captain and incorrectly called Green Bay to go on defense first, which would have allowed the Carolina Panthers the opportunity to win the game with a touchdown.
The Packers ended up winning, but they were 6-8 at the time.
Had they lost, they would have been eliminated from the playoffs.
The fact Green Bay chose to sit their star corner in another must-win game against the Vikings the next week says it all about how furious they were at his actions.
Seattle is clearly focusing on building a new culture of team-first focused players.
There were a lot of high caliber character men drafted this spring, including several former team captains.
Adding a talented but volatile personality like Alexander into the mix might be too big of a bite to chew this early on in the Macdonald regime.
