Spurs Could Sign Veteran Center From Division Rival originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After the 2023 NBA Draft, the San Antonio Spurs seemed to be set at the center position after selecting the phenom from France, Victor Wembanyama.

Wembanyama should anchor the paint for a decade or more to come. However, after his diagnosis last season, it is unclear when he might be cleared for contact again.

He has been cleared for conditioning and even some lifting.

However, he did share this update in a recent interview with Yahoo Sports."It's all very controlled and light, and even though sometimes I feel like I would like to do more.

It's a logical medical direction and I trust the process and trust the medical staff," Wembanyama shared.Until he is cleared, there is no real center on the roster other than Charles Bassey.

They will no doubt be looking to add to the position, either in the draft or in free agency.

One option for them could be former Houston Rockets center Steven Adams.Adams only played 13 minutes per game for the Rockets behind Alperen Sengun last season.

He still averaged 3.9 points and 5.6 rebounds in that short stint.

However, Adams is widely considered by NBA players to be one of the strongest people in the game.

Miami Heat forward Duncan Robinson shared his thoughts on the subject.

Theres a unanimous No.

1.

Thats Steven Adams, Robinson said on his podcast a few years ago.

"He is massive.

Incredibly strong and knows it.

And hes a terror, particularly on the offensive glass.Adams would be a viable option for the Spurs to plug in until Wembanyama receives clearance from the medical staff to ramp back up for contact.

Adams has been an effective center for a long career in this league, and could absolutely help anchor the paint for a young up-and-coming team.

Having a veteran presence on the floor would also provide a benefit to new head coach Mitch Johnson.Related: Three Free Agents San Antonio Spurs Should Target This OffseasonRelated: Spurs Interested In Top Big Man Prospect to Pair With WembanyamaThis story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 9, 2025, where it first appeared..
