Despite that, ESPN's FPI expects big things from Auburn in 2025 while again competing in the hyper-competitive SEC.

On Tuesday, the SEC-focused Twitter account The Next Round shared each conference team's chances of qualifying for the College Football Playoff based on ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI).

Despite accumulating just two wins in the conference last year, ESPN's FPI has Auburn with a higher CFP chance than the Missouri Tigers and the South Carolina Gamecocks, two programs that won at least nine games last season.

More notably, Auburn has better playoff odds per ESPN's FPI than any of the other teams that failed to reach at least eight wins last year.

Auburn's heightened expectations despite consistently underperforming results stem from a strong incoming class orchestrated by head coach Hugh Freeze.

Per 247Sports, Auburn will usher in the eighth-ranked 2025 recruiting class.

As for the transfer portal, Auburn inked former five-star mega prospect and quarterback Jackson Arnold for the 2025 season.

The Oklahoma Sooners transfer showed signs of brilliance last season, limiting turnovers while demonstrating his rushing ability, highlighted by a 131-yard rushing effort in a massive upset win against the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide.

He will become the leading distributor of passes to sophomore sensation Cam Coleman.Notably, the Texas Longhorns lead the way on ESPN's FPI in terms of College Football Playoff chances, with an 83.9 percent chance.

The Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide are the only other teams with odds better than 50 percent.
