Six Missouri baseball players, all pitchers, enter transfer portal on first day of window

Missouri baseballs pitching staff is getting a shakeup.Six Missouri baseball players, all of whom are pitchers, have entered the transfer portal, a team spokesperson confirmed to the Tribune.

Seth McCartney, Tony Neubeck, Kaden Jacobi, Wil Libbert, Josh Kirchhoff and Jaylen Merchant each officially entered their names into the portal database Monday, the first possible day for college baseball players to do so.The news comes less than a week after news surfaced that Missouri pitching coach Tim Jamieson will not return in that role for the Tigers next season.

It remains unclear whether Jamieson, who remains Mizzous second winningest head coach of all time, will return to MU in a different capacity next season.Missouri is bringing back head coach Kerrick Jackson for his third season at the helm, and he has the tall order of trying to inject life into a program that just sustained one of its worst seasons in its history.MU went 16-39 in the 2025 campaign, tied the longest losing streak in SEC history and had the worst conference record of any team since the league went to a 30-game schedule in 1996.Missouris pitching staff, which battled significant injury problems for much of the season, logged, by a significant margin, the worst team ERA in the Southeastern Conference.

The Tigers ended the 2025 campaign with a 9.19 ERA, well behind second-last-placed South Carolina with a 6.41 ERA.

Opponents logged a .314 batting average against MU in 2025 and more extra-base hits than against any other SEC team.Libbert, a left-handed redshirt freshman and Blair Oaks High alum, threw more innings (53.2) than any Mizzou pitcher last season, starting 11 of his 14 total appearances and ending the year with a 6.04 ERA and a 3-4 record.Jacobi, a senior righty out of OFallon, logged the third-most innings (46.2) for the Tigers and had a 10.03 ERA and a 2-6 record over 17 total appearances, including five starts.Neubeck, a junior left-hander who has been on the roster for four seasons, recorded a 16.62 ERA and a 1-5 record in 10 appearances, which included four starts.

Merchant only threw 1.1 innings last season.Mizzou is likely to experience significant roster turnover this offseason.
