UConn's Dan Hurley makes announcement on Knicks head coaching job | Sporting News

Dan Hurley is a logical dream target for the New York Knicks as their head coach after dismissing Tom Thibodeau.
But that dream doesn't sound like it'll be reality.
The University of Connecticut's head men's basketball coach poured cold water on the idea.
"Not another summer of that," Hurley told the Hartford Courant's Don Amore .
Hurley spent last summer as seemingly the leading target to be the Los Angeles Lakers' new head coach.
That fell through, and J.J.
Redick got the job instead.
The UConn leader won national championships in 2023 and 2024 with the Huskies.
The logic of Hurley to the Knicks made some sense.
Hurley is a New Jersey kid.
He played at Seton Hall, and he's never gone far.
His coaching stops have taken him to Wagner, Rhode Island and now Connecticut.
But Hurley has never coached in the league, and he doesn't appear ready to change that.
In college, Hurley has a 316-174 record as a head coach, to go with countless moments of high intensity and energy.
The Knicks should have their pick of a lot of talented coaches.
New York has a great roster and is a historic franchise.
They just won't be getting Hurley.
