The San Francisco Giants have performed surprisingly well this season.

After an 80-82 finish in 2024, the team is in sole possession of the third National League Wild Card spot at 31-23 on the season.

They will likely find themselves in buyer's territory this year at the trade deadline.

They added Justin Verlander and Willy Adames last offseason, and with the team in contention, it would make sense to add more.

The team needs some more starting pitching, especially a frontline option.

There will be plenty of arms available.

Sandy Alcantara may be the top arm available, and R.J.

Anderson believes the Giants could be a fit for the former Cy Young and two-time All-Star.

"His velocity is back and he's generating plenty of ground balls, but his command hasn't been there, and his pitches are finding the barrel too often.

Teams will have to assess not only what they think of his chances of righting the ship in-season, but how much they're willing to part with in order to play the odds," Anderson wrote.

The 29-year-old right-hander is 2-7 with an 8.04 ERA in 10 starts and has recorded 40 strikeouts in 47 innings of work.

If he can find his form again, he could command a hefty package, but as Anderson notes, it depends on how much teams are willing to give up.

The Miami Marlins are out of contention, but what makes Alcantara a potentially attractive asset is the fact that he has two years of control remaining, including a club option for 2027.

If he can turn things around, teams will be more interested in him.

A lot depends on that, however.

It sometimes takes a little time for pitchers to fully return to form after Tommy John surgery, so it will certainly be interesting to see if he can regain his form.

The Giants could use an extra top-level arm, and having him with Logan Webb could give them a better chance to reach the postseason.
