Rams' Quentin Lake doesn't sound too concerned about his contract entering crucial year

Year 4 is often a crucial one for every NFL player.
Rookie contracts are structured to be four years in length, meaning a player can hit free agency after his fourth season in the league. That could be what lies ahead for Los Angeles Rams defensive back Quentin Lake, who was drafted in the sixth round in 2022, making the upcoming season the final year of his rookie deal.Lake has blossomed into a playmaker for the Rams in the last two years after missing a good portion of his rookie season due to injury, becoming the defensive signal caller in 2024.
Hes a valuable piece of Chris Shulas defense, someone who played every snap last season outside of a few in Week 18 when the Rams rested their starters.Entering this critical year, Lake said hes not focused on his contract and is instead making sure he plays well and remains available. As a player, you always wish somethings going to shake out, he said on NFL Network.
The thing for me is, and this is something my dad always told me, your play on the field in between the white lines will take care of everything else outside.
So thats all I'm focused on right now.
Obviously, we have a good team.
Theres a lot of things that can happen.
Im just hoping that I make this the best year.
Had a lot of progression going from Year 2 to Year 3 and thats the same thing that I want to do from Year 3 to Year 4.
Make this my best year, make sure Im handling the business on the field so everything else takes care of itself outside of that.Rams S Quentin Lake brings the heat on The Insiders.
Why his best attribute makes an already good defense better.
How Davante Adams is making others better.
Plus, a Jalen Ramsey return??? pic.twitter.com/kUylnXNBZF Steve Wyche (@wyche89) May 24, 2025If the Rams want, they can sign him to a contract extension at any point between now and March when hes set to become a free agent.
Doing so would prevent Lake from hitting the open market, ensuring that he remains in Los Angeles for at least one more year.Lake could also want to test the waters of free agency next offseason if he feels another team either offers him more money or a better opportunity.
He was asked if hes had any contract talks with the Rams but he didnt answer that question in his response, an indication that negotiations havent yet begun.Being such a key part of the defense, Lake would be a tough player to lose in 2026 if the Rams choose not to re-sign him ahead of time. This article originally appeared on Rams Wire: Rams' Quentin Lake not worried about contract extension entering 2025.
