Arizona Diamondbacks ace Corbin Burnes was lifted after just 70 pitches Sunday against Washington with right elbow discomfort.

Manager Torey Lovullo told reporters after Arizona's 3-1 win that Burnes would have an MRI on Monday.

Sunday marked the first time Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts was able to put on shoes since stubbing a toe on his left foot earlier this week.

More importantly, it marked the first time he was able to move around.

Betts, out for the weekend series against the New York Yankees after sustaining a fracture to his fourth left toe, played catch and took part in light defensive work ahead of the series finale from Dodger Stadium.

Betts won't start Monday against the New York Mets, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after his team's 7-3 loss Sunday night.

The hope at this point is that he'll be back in the lineup Tuesday, avoiding a stint on the injured list.

Andrew McCutchen tied Roberto Clemente for third place on the Pittsburgh Pirates' all-time home run list at 240 with a two-run shot off San Diego's Randy Vasquez in the third inning Sunday.

It was the second homer in two games and fifth of the season for the 38-year-old McCutchen, who's in his 17th big league season and 12th with Pittsburgh over two stints.

It gave the Pirates a 2-1 lead, though Pittsburgh would later lose 6-4.

Another series, another sweep as the Colorado Rockies continue to make history for all the wrong reasons.

The Rockies fell 5-3 to the New York Mets on Sunday to extend their losing streak to eight games.

It is Colorado's fourth eight-game losing streak this season.

The Rockies are 9-50 -- the worst record through 59 games of any major league team in the modern era (since 1901).

They have been swept 10 times in 20 series -- tied for the most sweeps through 20 series with the 1962 Mets, the 1970 Milwaukee Brewers and the 1994 Athletics.

Jac Caglianone has been called up by the Kansas City Royals less than a year after he was the sixth pick in the 2024 MLB draft.

Caglianone has combined for 15 home runs and 56 RBIs across 50 games while hitting .322/.389/.593 in Double-A and Triple-A.

Caglianone's exit velocities rival Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani.

Kansas City's offensive struggles buried those fears enough to summon him to the big leagues.

Slumping Rangers slugger Adolis Garcia was held out of Texas' lineup for the third consecutive day Sunday, with president of baseball operations Chris Young saying the club wants the 2023 ALCS MVP to make some mechanical changes.

"We need him to kind of commit to some of these changes that we think will get him back to the '23 version of himself and help him be the player that we know he can be," Young said before Texas' series finale against St.

Louis.

The Phillies made moves to restructure their bullpen Sunday, removing Taijuan Walker from the rotation and recalling right-handed reliever Seth Johnson before their series finale against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Mick Abel will take Walker's place in the starting rotation Thursday in Toronto.

Reliever Jose Ruiz was designated for assignment to clear a roster spot for Johnson.

"I think Tai's got a chance to make us a lot better coming out of the 'pen," manager Rob Thomson said.

Juan Soto snapped a 17-game home run drought with a 404-foot homer to left-center field in the fourth inning of the New York Mets' 8-2 win Saturday over the Colorado Rockies.

Soto's first homer since May 9 was clocked at 109.5 mph off the bat but was hit into a 14 mph wind blowing out to right field.

Yordan Alvarez's hand injury is worse than it originally appeared.

The Houston Astros slugger felt pain in his right hand Friday while hitting, and a small fracture that was previously believed to be a muscle strain was discovered.

The fracture is about 60% healed.

General manager Dana Brown said he believes the fracture in Alvarez's fourth metacarpal wasn't discovered in initial imaging May 6 because there was too much inflammation and fluid.

Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper remains day-to-day as he continues to recover from a bruised right elbow, leaving his return to the lineup uncertain.

Harper was hit by a 95 mph fastball from Atlanta Braves pitcher Spencer Strider during the first inning Tuesday.

Although X-rays indicated no fracture, Harper described his elbow as "still super sore" and has yet to resume swinging a bat..
