LOCAL ROUNDUP: Angels purchase Edwards' contract

HIGH POINT The Los Angeles Angels have purchased the contract of High Point Rockers first baseman Evan Edwards.Edwards, a former standout at Southern Guilford and N.C.
State, leads the Atlantic League with 13 home runs, 43 RBIs and a .375 batting average.
Edwards is riding a 15-game hitting streak, which ties for the longest in club history.Edwards was a fourth-round pick by the Miami Marlins in 2019.
He spent one year with Miami before joining Tampa Bay for three seasons, reaching Triple-A Durham in 2023.Edwards is the fourth Rocker whose contract has been purchased by an MLB team this year and the 43rd player in Rockers history.

The High Point Rockers won 6-2 against the Charleston Dirty Birds in Atlantic League baseball Thursday at Charleston's GoMart Ballpark.Max Viera homered in a two-hit, three-RBI performance for High Point (22-8), which has won five of its last six games.
Drew Mendoza and Cody Wilson, who drove in a run, each added two hits.
DJ Burt and Jack Conley, who doubled, each had a hit and an RBI.The Rockers scored twice in the second and once in the fifth and led the rest of the way.Starting pitcher Matt Solter earned the win, striking out eight in six shutout innings.HPU WINS SASSER CUPHIGH POINT High Point University has captured the Big South Conference's Sasser Cup for the fourth straight year.The award highlights the conference's top overall athletic institution.

She began her stint as a graduate assistant before shifting into an assistant role.In the indoor season, the Eagles finished 16-11 overall and 12-6 in the South Atlantic Conference.
In the beach season, they went 25-7 overall record and 12-0 in conference play.
The Eagles captured their first-ever conference tournament title and competed at the national tournament.Cooper played in high school at Franklin Academy before playing in college at William Peace.
She graduated in 2023 after playing in 104 matches and 340 sets over four seasons.
She has also coached indoor and beach club volleyball over the past five years.TRINITY MAKES COACHING HIRESTRINITY Trinity High has made a handful of coaching hires as longtime coach Mike Sink steps away.Nathan Sink will coach the boys soccer team, while Zack Brown will coach the girls soccer team.
Molly Welch will coach the girls basketball team.
All three are Trinity alumni.Nathan Sink is a 2002 graduate who played soccer for the Bulldogs and later at High Point University.
He has been an assistant coach with the program since 2008.Brown, a 2005 graduate, has been an assistant coach with the program the last three seasons after being head coach at Southwestern Randolph for eight years.
Brown, who was JV coach in 2005, is also the girls tennis coach.Welch, a 2008 graduate, returned to Trinity in 2023 and has served in a variety of roles most recently as the middle school girls basketball coach and the girls golf coach.
She assisted mother Renee Croker Hayes in 2009-11..
