Hell offer up insights every morning on Brad Underwoods team and college basketball at large: Scottie Adkinson received his first Division I offer on Aug.
23, 2023, from Illinois.
The now 6-foot-3 guard from Marion had yet to play a single minute of high school basketball at Webster Groves (Mo.) after moving to the St.
Louis area.
Adkinson added offers from Lindenwood, Missouri, Southeast Missouri State and Saint Louis in the year after Illinois got involved.
His latest offer? Also the Illini, who re-offered Sunday.
Why a re-offer? Adkinson's initial recruiting contact with Illinois came through Chester Frazier.
The former Illinois guard turned assistant coach was a leading force for the Illini on the high school recruiting front.
Adkinson referenced "a great conversation" with Frazier when announcing his offer nearly 21 months ago.
Frazier, of course, moved on from Illinois not quite a year later.
He spent the 2024-25 season at West Virginia and then re-joined Mike Young's staff at Virginia Tech as associate head coach this spring.
So Illinois re-offered Adkinson to reflect continued interest in the consensus four-star guard, who is ranked as high as No.
26 nationally by On3 and is coming off a stellar sophomore season for the Statesmen.
Adkinson led Webster Groves to a Class 5 state championship this past season, averaging 24.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.2 steals.
He put up 29 points, eight rebounds and three assists in the 67-57 state title game victory against Summit Christian Academy.
Adkinson's sophomore success garnered him St.
Louis Post-Dispatch All-Metro boys' basketball player of the year honors.
He was also the Gatorade Player of the Year in Missouri, with Eureka (Mo.) coach Austin Kirby calling Adkinson "the best guard to come out of St.
Louis since Bradley Beal." Adkinson plays on the Nike circuit for MoKan's E16 team, which is where the Illinois staff saw him this past weekend in Memphis, Tenn.
Hard to miss considering he led his team to a 4-0 record putting up 21.5 points, 3.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game as a 66/62/78 shooter.
His best game came against Bates Fundamentals where he scored 33 points on 11 of 13 shooting 5 of 6 from three to go with six steals, four rebounds and three assists..
