EYOTA Miranda Palmby isnt perfect.

She has a messy closet.

At least some of the time.

So yeah, you cant expect EVERYTHING from this valedictorian of her class, National Honor Society member and three-sport star basketball, soccer and softball (all-Three Rivers Conference in each).

Shes not perfect.

ADVERTISEMENT There is that closet.

It is a little bit messy, said Palmby, who also spends chunks of her weekends working on the family farm.

You dont want to go into my closet right now.

There are a lot of clothes everywhere.

I have too many.

I have spurts of really good organization in there and then spurts where its really bad.

But also know this: That closet is an aberration.

Palmby is as close to a model 18-year-old as youll find.

Look at that 4.0 grade-point average, look at that star dependability in three sports, and listen to her coaches talk about her.

They rave.

All of them.

And its not just because the 6-foot tall and agile senior can shoot a basketball and rebound, zoom around to block shots from her soccer goalie position, and work precisely behind the plate as her teams athletic and brainy catcher.

Its who she is as much as what she does that jumps out.

Kind, gracious, dependable, friendly, hard working, generous all of those adjectives describe Palmby.

Shes just a great kid and a great student, Dover-Eyota girls basketball coach Brian Harris said.

She is a star in all three of her sports and is really coachable and friendly and has a competitive nature about her.

We will miss her leadership more than anything.

You tell her to do something and she does it.

And I dont think shes ever missed a day of practice.

Dover-Eyota softball coach Jordan Meyers had this to say about Palmby: Miranda will step up no matter the situation and is a big vocal leader for us.

She knows how to work well with our pitchers and how to read batters at the plate.

Plus, she is such a good kid to be around.

ADVERTISEMENT And then theres Dover-Eyota girls soccer coach Nate Asper: She has been such a coachable kid.

She never planned on playing goalie but she knew it was what the team needed and then did it for four years.

The respect she has for her teammates and that they have for her is great.

She is just a crazy hard worker and in games just wants to win and understands team things as well.

She has done great and a lot of that is just her attitude and hard work.

This isnt just a girl for all athletic seasons, but for pretty much everything.

She gets on top of her pursuits and stays on top.

One doesnt get to be valedictorian of their class without some serious time management going on.

And one doesnt accomplish what else Palmby has in the classroom without being organized.

For the last two years, the senior has been taking Post Secondary Education Opportunity classes at Rochester Community and Technical College, already having earned a liberal arts associates degree and a bunch of college credits.

She did it all the old-fashioned way, working her tail off.

School comes first at the Palmby house and always has.

My parents (Jim and Mandy) always put that into my mind, Palmby said.

And my older sister (Mariah) always did well in school and was a great role model for me.

My parents made school the first thing and it was something I always cared about.

If I ever get a B (on a test), Im stressing out.

I always want to do the best I can.

I love sports, but they can only get you so far.

In August, Palmby will get even more serious about school when she heads to Gustavus Adolphus College where shell major in biology with hopes of becoming a physicians assistant.

There will be less sports juggling there than shes used to.

Instead of taking on three sports, shes going to sink down to one basketball.

ADVERTISEMENT Making that her No.

1 was an easy decision for Palmby, who has always favored hoops and made it a nearly year-round endeavor, playing AAU in the springs and summers.

But she says having done basketball, soccer and softball in high school was absolutely the way to go.

She cherished all three and made countless connections as a result.

Her friend group is huge in good part thanks to sports.

Being diverse with sports was a great way to meet new people, said Palmby, who is the only girls basketball player in Dover-Eyota history to have scored 1,000 points and grabbed 1,000 rebounds.

Plus, playing all three helps your body not get injured, makes your mobility better and allows you to get your mind clear.

You dont have to play just one sport all year round.

And even if you dont play three, play two.

Palmby already knows that shes going to miss the good-old days, when she was jumping from one sport to the next.

But this is going to allow her some actual free time in college, something thats been foreign to her.

The time seems right.

College is calling and Palmby is ready to dive into all that it will offer.

The Dover-Eyota senior doesnt know how to do it any other way.

Shell be full-fledged, as always.

Except for maybe her attention to her closet.
