Detroit Tigers legend Miguel Cabrera to play one more season — in Venezuela

Detroit Tigers legend Miguel Cabrera is continuing his playing career.The 42-year-old who retired from his 21-year MLB career after the 2023 season will play for Tigres de Aragua in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League during the 2025-26 season, which begins in late October 2025.Cabrera hasn't played in Venezuela since the 2007-08 season.Each of the eight teams in the LVBP regular season plays 55 games.The best five teams advance to a round-robin format with 16 games apiece.

He led Tigres de Aragua to six championship appearances and won four titles.Buy our book: The Epic History of the TigersHe played in Venezuela during MLB's offseason.Fellow Venezuelan star Bobby Abreu was one of his notable rivals in the LVBP.From 2000-08, Cabrera hit .305 with 20 home runs, 93 RBIs, 20 walks and 11 strikeouts in 170 games across nine regular seasons with Tigres de Aragua, spanning 617 plate appearances.

Cabrera stopped playing for Tigres de Aragua after signing an eight-year, $152.3 million contract extension with Detroit in March 2008, just three months after the Florida Marlins traded him and three weeks before his 25th birthday.
