Missouri State women's basketball adds Division II Pitt State transfer from portal

Missouri State women's basketball is returning to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, hoping another Division II transfer can impact its program.The Lady Bears announced the signing of Pittsburg State transfer Maycee James, who will join the program with one season of eligibility remaining.James is a 5-foot-7 guard who played one injury-impacted season with the Gorillas.

The Goddard, Kansas, native played her previous two seasons at Butler Community College."We're extremely excited to add Maycee to our Lady Bear family," Lady Bears coach Beth Cunningham said in a release.

"Maycee is a proven winner and her experience, coupled with the intangibles she will bring to our program, will impact us immediately.

We are thrilled to be able to get her to campus and get started."In 2024-25, she returned from a mid-season injury to help lead the Gorillas to a MIAA regular-season and postseason title.

She didn't play a stretch between Dec.

20 and the beginning of February, and started five games following her return.

James started 17 games and made 29 appearances for the Gorillas, averaging 6.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists.

She had similar production before her injury.

At Butler Community College, she was an all-conference performer in both seasons.

She averaged 6.3 points, 3.3 assists and 2.8 steals over the two years.The last time the Lady Bears recruited out of the MIAA, they landed Missouri Southern transfer Lacy Stokes, who developed into one of the greatest point guards in the program's history.
