Colin Cowherd certainly doesn't mind speaking his mind.

On Friday, he shared a downright disrespectful take on the WNBA and Caitlin Clark.

Cowherd's premise centered around the idea that many people only began watching the league once the sensational Clark turned pro.

He played out a conversation: "' Colin , I was watching the WNBA long before Caitlin Clark.' Well yeah, it's not my problem your social life was boring." Come on, man.

He called the WNBA's fans before Clark "gatekeepers." Theres these people who are fans of indie bands, international soccer, and the WNBA, Cowherd said.

They have this gatekeeping mentality.

Theyll tell you whos great...

I'm not going to apologize for watching it when it got really interesting." MORE: Angel Reese insults Caitlin Clark with passive-aggressive comment Where do you even start with this? Yes, Clark has been a boon for the WNBA and women's basketball in general, first in college at Iowa and now with the Indiana Fever.

Attendance records have been set.

Television viewership has skyrocketed.

Clark is unquestionably good for the league.

But to hate on the fans who were there before is bonkers.

Just because Cowherd and many others weren't watching doesn't change that.

Big-time sports hosts know they'll grab attention by saying things like this, and they know Clark has brought more attention to women's basketball in general, so they lean in to the absurd.

But the WNBA has been great for a long time, whether Cowherd was watching or not.
