Kraken Goaltending Prospect Named Finalist For KHL Rookie Of The Year

Seattle Kraken goaltending prospect Semyon Vyazovoi has been named a finalist for the KHL's Rookie of the Year. The 22-year-old posted a 14-7-1 record, including a .938 SP and a 1.80 GAA with Salavat Yulaev Ufa.
His .938 SP was so dominant that it ranked tied for the league lead among all KHL goaltenders, tied with 29-year-old netminder Vladislav Podyapolsky.
Nominated alongside Vyazovoi were Montreal Canadiens forward Ivan Demidov and Nashville Predators forward prospect Yegor Surin.
Demidov, 19 years old, scored 19 goals and 49 points in 65 games, leading all rookies in both categories.
Surin, who's just 18 years old, scored seven goals and 14 points in 41 games.
The Kraken's sixth-round pick (163rd overall) in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft took a big step forward.
He's posted remarkable numbers in the lower leagues of Russia, registering a .932 SP in 87 MHL games and a .927 SP in 69 VHL games.
The timing of his arrival to the Kraken organization is still unknown, but if he continues to perform as he did in his rookie season for an additional season or two, he could make the jump to North American professional hockey with an abundance of confidence and results that garner plenty of respect.
