The hot conversation right now for Michigan State basketball is around Jase Richardson.

While Tom Izzo hinted recently that he doesn't think it's out of the question that his star freshman comes back for another year, Richardson spent the week at the NBA draft combine meeting with teams and getting his measurements taken.

While fans await his final decision, it's an interesting time to check out the always popular and fun NBA mock drafts that start to be churned out by podcasters and analysts this time of year to see where Richardson is currently projected to be drafted, with the hope, for Spartan fans who want to see him back next year, that his average projected draft position is low enough that he will decide to come back and try to improve his draft stock next year.In a recent mock draft from popular NBA draft podcast Game Theory with Sam Vecenie, Vecenie and his co-host Bryce Simon had Jase Richardson mocked about as low as I have seen him yet, projecting him to go No.

28 to the Boston Celtics. While this is a very low draft slot for Richardson (lower than I really expect to see him taken), it is an interesting landing spot for him.

Of course, he would be joining fellow Spartan Xavier Tillman on a team that has a championship pedigree.

The Celtics also have need for cheap, younger players to fill out their rotation after amassing a lot of salary during their title run.

Also, with Jayson Tatum likely out for the entire next season with an Achilles injury, this could be a rare situation where a team not far removed from a title run has some opportunity available in their rotation for a bucket-getter like Jase Richardson.

While it's lower than many expect, I think this type of opportunity, if available, could keep him in the draft. You can watch the full mock draft from Game Theory below:.oembed-frame {width:100%;height:100%;margin:0;border:0;}Contact/Follow us @The SpartansWire on X, and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Michigan state news, notes, and opinion.
