Sixers draft history: Speedy Claxton selected in Round 1 in 2000

With the NBA draft right around the corner, now is the time to look at some past drafts and see what the Philadelphia 76ers have done in their history.
The Sixers have selected some big-time players in the past who have become an important part of the fabric of the franchise's history.This next edition focuses on the 2000 draft as the Sixers were still looking to build a championship roster around superstar Allen Iverson.
With their Round 1 selection, the Sixers took Speedy Claxton out of Hofstra.
A sure ball-handler in college, Claxton was expected to handle the offense and make life easier for everybody on the floor.However, Claxton suffered a knee injury in the preseason and missed the entire 2000-01 season.
He played one year for the Sixers in 2001-02 and averaged 7.2 points and 3.0 assists with 2.4 rebounds before being shipped to the San Antonio Spurs in the offseason.
He then helped the Spurs win the 2003 NBA title.
Overall, Claxton had a solid career playing for the Golden State Warriors, the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets, and the Atlanta Hawks.
