Steelers undrafted free agents with best chance to make 53-man roster | Sporting News

The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a promising offseason, but the team has yet to address the most important position in the game- quarterback.
Justin Fields and Russell Wilson both started for the team in 2024, but both passers signed elsewhere in free agency.
The team did draft Will Howard in the sixth round, though, and continues to be linked to veteran Aaron Rodgers .
The rest of the roster appears to be in good shape, though.
The team added a couple solid veterans in free agency, and then addressed most of the biggest remaining needs in the 2025 NFL Draft.
After the draft, the Steelers and all 31 other teams rushed to scoop up the best available undrafted players.
The Steelers didn't land a ton of players, but a few of the ones they did add could be interesting.
Today, let's identify the three undrafted free agents with the best shot of making the 53-man roster.
Sebastian Castro, DB, Iowa Sebastian Castro is a player who was frequently selected in mock drafts.
However, the Iowa product went undrafted and the Steelers were quick to swoop in.
In 2024, Castro played in 12 games and collected 57 tackles, three tackles for loss, and one interception.
Overall, the defender played in 53 games for the Hawkeyes and collected 163 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, two sacks, and four interceptions.
In Pittsburgh, Castro could land one of the depth safety spots.
DeShon Elliott, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Miles Killebrew are locks, but Castro could snag the fourth spot.
J.J.
Galbreath, TE, South Dakota J.J.
Galbreath was a productive tight end at FCS South Dakota.
The tight end caught 36 passes for 579 yards and five touchdowns in 2024.
In a loaded class of tight ends, Galbreath didn't hear his name called during the draft.
However, the tight end could have landed in a great spot, as the Steelers don't have the best depth at tight end.
If Galbreath performs this summer and perhaps demonstrates some special teams ability, it wouldn't be surprising to see him land a spot behind Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington, and Donald Parham Jr.
Roc Taylor, WR, Memphis Roc Taylor is another player who easily could have heard his name called during the draft.
Taylor excelled at Memphis, catching 66 passes for 950 yards and two scores in 2024.
Overall, the receiver caught 163 passes for 2,375 yards and seven touchdowns in 44 games with the Tigers.
The Steelers did add D.K.
Metcalf in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks this offseason, but in return, the team shipped off George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys.
Thus, there is at least one receiver spot that could be claimed, and Taylor is a great candidate to do so..
