RAW on Netflix: CM Punk Costs Seth Rollins The WWE World Title

It was the 15 th time that Omaha hosted Monday Night RAW , but it was the first since October 2023.
The city has long been a hotbed for wrestling since the territory days, and tonights show is fittingly jam-packed.
After last weeks brutal beat down of Sami Zayn, all eyes were on this new Rollins-led faction as they ramped up their master plan.
Aside from some terrific matches, including Penta vs.
JD McDonagh and the returning Rusev, the show was poised to create headlines that overshadow this weekends roster cuts.
With BackLash on Saturday, there are plenty of interesting storylines to enhance on the go-home episode of RAW.
Paul Heyman Demands His Piece Of Flesh The first segment of RAW is traditionally used to set up the show and typically involves the big storyline currently operating on the red brand.
That is not to say that this segment is always the best on the show because that is typically reserved for the shows climax or finale.
Tonight, however, the show kickoff segment was both the best and most relevant program on RAW as Jey Uso received the shows first entrance of the night, though the audience has grown to expect a longer entrance than the promo from Mr.
Yeet.
Paul Heyman made his way out and cut one of the best promos of the yearpossibly his careerwhile providing a more textured motive for his WrestleMania 41 turn(s).
He spoke about his best friend CM Punk putting him in a lose/lose situation with his Tribal Chief.
Jey attempted to squash Pauls victim mentality, but he decided to stand up for himself with a narrative that was difficult to dispute.
Jey said he warned both Roman and Punk about getting into bed with Paul, and that is when Paul flipped the script by wondering why no one warned him about either man.
Paul said he took the broken dog that was Roman and made him relevant, but when he needed him, he chose to be selfish by chasing revenge for his Ula Fala and not to avenge the attack on Heyman last year at Madison Square Garden.
The passion and pain in Heymans promo cut deep and created a tone that was difficult for Jey to match.
So, instead, Jey asked if Heyman was alright, creating a bit of levity in the segment that hit perfectly.
The segment hit its peak at the right time for Heyman to unleash his actual planto secure a title match from Jey for Seth Rollins .
Jey took the bait as a face typically does, and the match was booked for the main event of RAW Later, in a backstage segment, Paul was seen talking to Rollins and confirming that this was all an established plan conjured up by Monday Night Rollins.
Paul admitted that Seth told him so when redirecting his attention to Bron Breakker, explaining that Seth is a sniper with Jey in his sights.
For the first time in seven months, the mens heavyweight title will be on the line in the main event, but the rarity of a 50/50 match with the champion so fresh off his Mania title win makes this even more exciting than past RAW title matches.
Main Event: Jey Uso(c) vs.
Seth Rollins Rollins came into this match looking for his 6 th world championship, and this one had the feel of a big fight.
The crowd was hot from the start and never relinquished their excitement as they sensed they might be part of a huge moment in WWE history.
They started chanting, this is awesome, as multiple near falls were exchanged, leading up to Jey slapping a choke on Seththe same move that won him the title over Gunther.
Breakker eventually got involved, but he was quickly rebuffed.
With Rollins taking a beat, he decided to huddle up with Breakker, and just as the man with the plans began to cook in Breakkers ear, Sami Zayns music hit to a huge pop, and he went toe-to-toe with Breakker.
Zayn was able to even the odds with his ribs taped up, and that tape provided a target for Breakker, who would go on to hit Zayn with another spear.
Breakker was able to hit a spear on Jey while the ref was distracted by Paul.
Rollins hit Jey with the curb stomp, and it was definitely over for the champ.
That is when CM Punk s music hit in one of the greatest overbooked endings to RAW in history.
Again, the crowd went nuts and provided the soundtrack for this moment: CM Punk , CM Punk , CM Punk .
A post shared by WWE (@wwe) With a chair in hand, Punk came out to ensure Seth did not win the title.
Jey was a bit dejected in the corner as Punk tempted Rollins and Breakker to come back and fight, but Zayn tended to the champ after a retention he was probably not very proud of and moments away from losing.
There are so many narratives here, and, for the first time, Jey represents the most interesting.
With Zayn by his side (for now) and Punk as an ally, it is difficult to know who can actually trust at this new career height.
All that considered, Logan Paul is also on the horizon, and this all looms as the Heyman-Rollins pairing continues to display a prowess for plans.
Penta vs.
JD McDonagh After costing each other matches over the past couple of weeks (matches with title implications), Penta and JD McDonagh faced off in singles action.
With The Judgement Day ringside, you knew Penta was going to face some stiff oddssuffering his first singles match two weeks ago on RAW after Mania.
The faction would get involved in the match, of course, but it was despite a terrific showing from JD.
The ref eventually caught Finn in the act and sent the boys to the back for the night.
That evening of the odds allowed Penta to gain enough momentum to hit the Mexican Destroyer for the pinfall victory.
Iyo Sky Gets Call-Up Challenger(s) The womens world champion, Iyo Sky, faced off against Roxanne Perez in singles action.
It was a terrifically paced match, and Roxxane showed she can hang with the best in the business, but Sky is performing at a whole other level right now.
Sky took the win and put over Perez after the match in a show of respect for the recent NXT call-up.
However, the show of respect was a ruse to distract the champion as Giulia came in the ring to start the beat down, for which Perez eventually joined.
The NXT call-ups have been a thorn in the champs side since winning the title, and she will likely have to defeat both to rid herself of them.
Rusev Back In Action After Returning From Abyss Cole, on commentary gave us some insights into Rusevs current character, and the former U.S.
champion said he entered an abyss after leaving WWE.
This was a bit of a cheap shot to AEW, where Rusev was signed after his non-compete ended with WWE.
He never quite got going in AEW, and there are probably still hard feelings.
Rusev was given a showcase match against Otis, who was on the bad end of Rusevs return to RAW.
Otis was able to get some offense of his own.
Rusev eventually picked up the win, but, once again, he latched on to a cobra clutch after the match and would not let go of Otis until WWE officials forced him.
Pat Mac Getting A Crack At Gunther The viral clip of Pat McAfee getting choked out by Gunther on the Raw after Mania was enough to launch a feud culminating in a singles match at BackLash.
The face-off between the two is fresh off last weeks inspired promo from McAfeeeven if it is silly to think he stands a chance with the former heavyweight champ and all-time IC titlist.
A post shared by WWE (@wwe) This week, Pat focused his promo on Coles behalf, saying he has earned the right to have an opinion.
Of course, the podcaster got the cheap pop for shouting out some of the college football players in the audience and even mentioned the fact that Omaha plays host to the College Baseball World Series.
This weeks promo was not as great, but he did own the crowd in a way that not many can.
However, it did not go far enough in convincing fans that Pat is a realistic threat.
Ultimately, this programs entire purpose is to give Gunther that primetime rub by pairing him with one of the biggest audiences in the sports genre.
IC Title Finally Relevant It was a rocky road of booking for The Man after returning at Mania to win the tag titles only to lose them and turn heel on her partner 24hrs later on RAW after Mania.
Despite being the challenger, Becky was the first out to cut a promo on her faceoff segment with the actual titlist Lyra Valkyria .
A post shared by WWE (@wwe) Becky and Lyras segment wasnt all that different from last weeks, except for the Sports Illustrated nod from Becks.
The final faceoff ended in a brawl between champion and challenger, but we finally have a meaningful program against the most meaningful opponent to challenge for the womens IC title.
Other Tidbits/In-Ring Action After Penta took his victory over JD, it was announced that he would face Dom Mysterio at Backlash for the IC title.
AJ Styles walked into TJD hideout and said he wanted a shot at the IC title after BackLash.
So, Dom asked Finn to handle him since he and AJ have history, and after pretending to be offended, he passive-aggressively accepted the order while wearing his Dom merch to boot.
Waller and Theory are back on good terms after Waller tried finagling a singles match for himself.
So, to return the favor, Waller talked the returning GM Adam Pearce into booking Theory in a singles match of his own.
Theory would end up facing Sheamus and, even with Waller ringside, ended up losing to the veteran.
