Texas Reportedly at Risk of Losing Five-Star QB Dia Bell to Historic College Football Program
Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian is what those in the business call a quarterback whisperer. It may be hard to find a college football coach with a more proven track record of developing quarterbacks than Sarkisian.
He found success with Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Jake Locker, Tua Tagovailoa and most recently Quinn Ewers.
The next quarterback he is set to work with is the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, Arch Manning. While the 2025 preseason Heisman favorite, along with LSU's Garrett Nussmeier, has plenty of expectations surrounding him, Sarkisian already has his predecessor picked out.
The Longhorns hold a commitment from 2026 five-star, Dia Bell.
Similar to Manning, Bell has a famous family member, as his father, Raja Bell, played in the NBA.Although Bell has been committed since June, 247Sports' Tom Loy recently revealed that the Ohio State Buckeyes are pushing hard to flip him, tabbing the 2024 champs as the "biggest threat" to flip him.Recruits Dia Bell and Byron Louis watch Ohio State warm up before playing Penn State.
Lori Schmidt Columbus Dispatch USA TODAY NETWORK "It's going to take a lot to flip him from the Longhorns, but the Buckeyes continue to try and chip away," wrote Loy.While Ohio State is one of the few programs in college football that could realistically make a compelling pitch to rival Texas', the Longhorns have a much more straightforward path to the field for Bell.
Even if Manning stays for 2026, the job is wide open after that, whereas Ohio State has 2025 five-star Tavien St.
Clair waiting his turn behind 2024 five-star Julian Sayin.Until pen is put to paper, no recruitment is over.
However, given Sarkisian's track record, it's hard to imagine he'd let Ohio State swoop in on Bell's recruitment.Related: Reason Behind Quinn Ewers' Unexpected NFL Draft Slide Revealed.
