Times are getting tough for the Chicago Cubs, and it's important to remember that if Jed Hoyer doesn't do his job at a high level over the next few months, there's a chance it might be his last year in the Windy City. While he can't be blamed for all the injuries the Cubs have dealt with, injuries are prevalent right now, and he needs to find a way to add some elite players at the deadline, especially on the mound. With Shota Imanaga out for a bit with a hamstring injury, Justin Steele out for the remainder of the campaign, and more injuries likely on the way if history repeats itself, the Cubs need to show interest in Sandy Alcantara.

They've been linked to the right hander multiple times over the past year and a half, and he makes perfect sense for this organization.

Miami Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara (22) throws during the first inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.Kirby Lee-Imagn ImagesAs a right-handed starter, something the Cubs need, there likely won't be a better option than Alcantara on the market.Polling executives around Major League Baseball, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com revealed that 12 executives believe he's the most likely player to be dealt at the deadline, which is excellent news for the Cubs as they search for right-handed pitching. The longer he is removed from the injury the better he will likely be, an American League executive said.

At the Deadline, he could demand a pretty price with up to two-and-a-half years of control remaining on his contract.Alcantara hasn't been the same type of arm he once was, posting an 8.42 ERA in 31.0 innings so far.

His strikeout numbers are also down a ton, striking out just 23 hitters. For most of his career, he hasn't been a strikeout arm, but his numbers aren't great right now, potentially helping the Cubs, however, if his price isn't what it was expected to be.Related: MLB Insider Reveals Major Cubs' Cade Horton Concern.
