The Laval Rocket have signed Brantford Bulldogs defenseman Owen Protz to an amateur try-out, the team announced Wednesday.

A product of Ottawa, Ont., Protz finished his first full season with the Bulldogs this year, scoring five goals and adding 27 assists for 32 points in 67 regular season games.

Protz also got into 11 playoff games with the team, putting up one goal and six points.

Drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the fourth round of the 2024 NHL Draft, Protz has spent parts of three seasons in the OHL with the Bulldogs and the Sudbury Wolves.

Over 134 career OHL regular season games, Protz has collected eight goals and 43 assists for 51 points.

With Protz joining the Rocket, he will likely get into a few games with the team.

With this being Protz's first exposure to pro hockey, this will be a great learning chance for the Habs prospect as he likely gets set to return to the OHL for one final season this fall..
