MLB's Rob Manfred to rule on Pete Rose reinstatement request after President Donald Trump meeting | Sporting News

Former Cincinnati Reds legend Pete Rose is the all-time hits leader in MLB with a career total of 4,256 hits.

Rose also holds records for games (3,562) and plate appearances (15,890), but he received a permanent ban from the league in 1989 due to allegedly placing numerous bets on the Reds to win from 1985-87.

Rose was a player and a manager during those years, so his records - impressive as they are - are met with an asterisk for some.

The legend passed away in September 2024, but now MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred revealed that he spoke with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, in an effort to reinstate Rose, per Jake Seiner of The Associated Press .

"Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said he discussed Pete Rose with President Donald Trump at a meeting two weeks ago and he plans to rule on a request to end the sports permanent ban of the career hits leader," Seiner wrote.

Manfred did mention the conversation was discussed, although he didn't get into specifics.

I met with President Trump two weeks ago, I guess now, and one of the topics was Pete Rose, but Im not going beyond that, Manfred said.

Hes said what he said publicly, Im not going beyond that in terms of what the back and forth was.

If Rose is reinstated, he would be eligible to be in the 2027 Hall of Fame class, and it's hard to argue he doesn't belong, as he has some impressive records in the history of the sport.
