Sports Digest: International team rebounds with sweep on second day of Presidents Cup

GOLF Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im tied a record for the biggest blowout, and Si Woo Kim polished off a perfect day Friday as the International team produced a sweep of its own to tie the Americans in the Presidents Cup at Montreal.
Unlike the American sweep in fourballs Thursday, most of the foursomes matches werent even close.
The Internationals only trailed in one match, and only for one hole.
Patrick Cantlay and and Xander Schauffele, 3-0 in foursomes at the Presidents Cup, never stood a chance against Matsuyama and Im.
The Internationals birdied their final seven holes, a staggering streak considering they were alternating shots, for a 7-and-6 win.
WORLD TOUR: Angel Hidalgo of Spain added to his opening-round 65 by hitting 4-under 67 thanks to four birdies and a single bogey at Madrid.
He is four shots ahead of Joe Dean of England.
TENNIS CHINA OPEN: Coco Gauff reached the third round by beating Clara Burel 7-5, 6-3 at Beijing in her first match since the U.S.
Open.
The sixth-ranked Gauff, who saved a set point when trailing 5-4 in the first set, will play Katie Boulter of Britain, who advanced by beating Taylor Townsend of the U.S., 6-4, 6-4.
WIMBLEDON: A proposal by Wimbledon organizers to expand the site of the Grand Slam tournament with 39 new courts was given the green light by local authorities.
COLLEGES FOOTBALL: Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos will miss the Saturday game against Western Kentucky and be replaced by Florida International transfer Grayson James.
Castellanos played without apparent problems last Saturday in the 23-19 victory against Michigan State, hitting Lewis Bond with the winning touchdown pass with 1:28 left.
He missed part of Tuesdays practice.
CONFERENCES: Northern Illinois said it has not received a formal offer to consider a change in its conference, but appreciates the interest in our strong brand amid media reports that the school and fellow Mid-American Conference member Toledo are being targeted by the Mountain West.
AUTO RACING FORMULA 1: Michael Andretti has restructured Andretti Global to give co-owner Dan Towriss control of the organization while Andretti will stay on as a strategic advisor of the team he has led since 2002.
Andretti in early 2023 confirmed he sold part of the company to Towriss, owner of Gainbridge and holding company Group 1001.
Gainbridge is one of the largest sponsors in IndyCar, and also sponsors Andretti driver Colton Hertas car and the Indianapolis 500.
BASKETBALL WNBA: The Chicago Sky fired Coach Teresa Weatherspoon after one season.
Chicago finished 13-27 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 20.
The next coach will be the teams fourth since the Sky won the championship in 2021.
NBA: The Utah Jazz picked up the fifth-year option on Coach Will Hardys contract.
SOCCER ITALIAN LEAGUE: Christian Pulisic scored three goals in five minutes shortly before halftime as AC Milan defeated visiting Lecce, 3-0.
Pulisic has five goals in seven games this season.
His combined total of 32 goals and assists since joining the team in June 2023 is the best in the league.
CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: UEFA banned Barcelona from selling tickets for its next away game after spectators displayed a banner with Nazi overtones about the teams new German coach.
HOCKEY NHL: Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty needs surgery to repair his broken left ankle and is expected to miss most of the season.
Coach Jim Hiller said the injury is not season-ending, adding that the team expects Doughty back at some point.
Hiller did not provide a timeline, and the Kings listed Doughty on their injury report as month-to-month.
