The Baltimore Orioles recalled infield prospect Coby Mayo from the Triple-A Norfolk Tides for another shot at the big leagues.

Mayo, 23, made his major-league debut last season Aug.

2, 2024, and batted .098 in two separate stints (17 games) with Baltimore last season.

He returns to the club after the Orioles placed Ramon Urias on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain Saturday, retroactive to Friday.

Advertisement Urias became the clubs 14th player placed on the IL.

The roster moves came ahead of Saturdays game against the Kansas City Royals at Camden Yards.

The Athletic s Keith Law ranked Mayo as the Orioles No.

2 prospect and No.

18 among the top 100 MLB prospects .

Law said Mayo is 6-5 and does have long levers, so his swing can get big, some of which is the natural tradeoff for the kind of power he displays, but may also point to a longer adjustment period in the majors as pitchers exploit that length.

He hasnt swung-and-missed excessively in the minors, however, and he has made small adjustments to his approach and his mechanics as hes moved up, so theres every reason to think hell do so in the majors.

Hes played third and first in pro ball and has made himself into a capable defender at the hot corner, but first base will always be the easiest option or possibly right field, as he has plenty of arm and moves well enough for a corner outfield spot.

His bat looks like itll play anywhere, with 30-35 homer upside and a good enough plan at the plate to eventually get to league-average or better OBPs.

In Triple A, Mayo has hit .252 with 22 RBIs, six home runs and an .869 OPS across 28 games.
