Former Union AD proposes renaming field after former NFL player

The Union Area School Board received a request to consider renaming the districts football stadium at its Sept.

18 meeting.

Board member Chaz Macri said former athletic director Bob Natale called him about two weeks ago asking the board to consider renaming the field to Darrell Dess Field at Socs Roussos Stadium, after the Union High graduate who earned the 92nd all-time player spot in the New York Giants franchise.

Theres a process we have to follow (to rename the field), but I certainly think it deserves consideration, Superintendent Dr.

Michael Ross said.

Ross is waiting to hear from sources familiar with the matter on the renaming process, he said.

Carol Dess, Darrells wife, said even when he played professional football and celebrated by his family and friends, it was still just a job to him.

Being a guard, usually its the quarterbacks, receivers and linebackers.

Guards dont get much notoriety, she said.

Dess said he would be happy with the name change as long as it does not affect the legacy of his friend, Socs Roussos..
