Reds top pitching prospect Chase Burns strikes out eight in Double-A Chattanooga start

Cincinnati Reds top pitching prospect Chase Burns allowed one earned run on five hits without a walk while striking out eight in five innings in a win Friday night for the Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts.It was Burns' second start for the Lookouts.

He struck out five while allowing five hits and a walk in four innings in his Double-A debut.Burns was promoted April 21st to Double-A after posting a 3.09 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 11 2/3 innings in the three starts he made for the High-A Dayton Dragons.Burns struck out six in four shutout innings in his Dayton debut and struck out seven while allowing just one run in his second outing for the Dragons.

In his third High-A start, he allowed first-inning homers by a pair of Dodgers' prospects before settling down to strike out seven in four innings.Burns ranks first among MLB Pipeline's top Reds prospects, and 23rd among MLB Pipeline's top 100 overall.Burns didn't pitch professionally last year after the Reds selected him second overall in the 2024 MLB draft.Social media reactions to Burns' start Friday night, including from the Lookouts:CHASE.
