Drake women's basketball: Bulldogs hire Kristin Rotert as new assistant coach

Kristin Rotert is leaving the Northwestern College womens basketball program in Orange City.But she isnt going far.Rotert, who spent four seasons as the head coach at the Iowa NAIA school, was named an assistant coach for the Drake womens basketball team.I am beyond exited and grateful to be joining such an incredible staff and program here at Drake, Rotert said in a May 1 statement announcing the news.

(Drake) is truly a special place with a rich tradition of womens hoops and a culture of excellence.Rotert, who took over the Northwestern program in 2021, compiled a record of 80-44 during her tenure and guided the Raiders to four berths in the NAIA Tournament.A native of Salem, S.D., Rotert worked as the director of basketball operations at South Dakota State for three years before coming to Northwestern.She was a part of the Jackrabbits Sweet 16 run and Summit League title in 2019.

Rotert was a star at South Dakota State and finished her collegiate career tied for the programs all-time lead in 3-pointers made.Rotert also worked as the head coach for the South Dakota Attack AAU program for four years.

She was also the Reach and Rise Youth Mentoring Director at the Aberdeen Family YMCA in South Dakota and served as an instructor with the Warwick Workouts.Tommy Birch, the Register's sports enterprise and features reporter, has been working at the newspaper since 2008.

He's the 2018, 2020 and 2023 Iowa Sportswriter of the Year.
