Nebraska received a commit from 2027 Chicago Carmel Catholic High School quarterback Trae Taylor.

Three takes on the decision of the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder: Big win for a top prospect 247Sports, On3 and Rivals all rate Taylor as a four-star, top-100 player, and NU had to fend off big names LSU, Michigan, Texas A&M, Illinois to land Taylors commit.

It took a lot of visits to campus and a key recruiting assist from Dylan Raiola who, it must be said, helped land a kid who will compete against his younger brother, Dayton for Taylor to pick Nebraska, and the domino effect, provided NU wins some games, will be clear.

Taylor will be a top peer recruiter over the next 18 months, attracting talent not only from the Chicago area but nationwide.

Hes an anchor talent, like Raiola.

Unlike Raiola, hell be attached to Nebraska for a long time.

Dual-threat with room to grow Taylor is comfortable as a shotgun spread pocket passer, but hes able to throw on the move, too, with upside as a runner.

Hell need to put on some weight, and likely will over the next two seasons of high school football.

At the moment he compares favorably to another former quarterback from the Chicago prepland, JJ McCarthy, who went to Michigan and grew into a NFL first-round pick.

McCarthys love for the game propelled him.

Taylor, having prepared for college football since the fifth grade, has a similar passion.

Another in-state star quarterback likely headed elsewhere That would be Omaha Westside quarterback Braylen Warren, a 2027 signal caller who has offers from Iowa, Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa State, Missouri and more, but not one from Nebraska.

NUs probably comfortable with Taylor as its lone guy in the 2027 class, too.

Warrens just beginning his recruiting process after impressing folks at an Elite 11 event, but it seems possible hell join quarterbacks like Gretnas Zane Flores (Oklahoma State) and Millard Souths Jett Thomalla (Iowa State) as players who left the state.

Bellevue Wests Daniel Kaelin played one year at NU before transferring out when it became clear Dylan Raiola would be the starter in 2026 and 2027, as well.

Kaelin landed at Virginia..
