Former Wisconsin offensive tackle signs contract for 2025 NFL season

Former Wisconsin offensive tackle Cole Van Lanen signed his restricted free agent tender with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday.

The deal keeps him with the team for the 2025 NFL season.The Jaguars placed a sixth-round tender on Van Lanen earlier this offseason.

Had another team extended the lineman a contract offer, Jacksonville would have gotten the opportunity to match.

If the Jaguars then declined to match that deal, the signing team would be forced to send over a sixth-round pick.Van Lanen reportedly visited the Seattle Seahawks last month, though he did not receive an official offer sheet.

Our friends at JaguarsWire note that Van Lanen's restricted free agent deal with the Jaguars is for one year and is worth $3.26 million.The former Badger left tackle enters his fifth NFL season in 2025, his fourth with the Jaguars.

He was originally a sixth-round pick of the Green Bay Packers in 2021.

The Jaguars traded for him the following August, just weeks before the 2022 campaign.Van Lanen's role has steadily increased during his time in Jacksonville.

He appeared in 16 games in 2022, playing just 18 total snaps (2%) on offense and 63 (16%) on special teams.

That share of offensive snaps jumped to 53 (9%) in just nine appearances in 2023, then further to 252 (46%) in 2024.Van Lanen projects to enter the 2025 season as the Jaguars' backup right tackle, behind 2023 first-round pick Anton Harrison.
