Russell Westbrook: It's 'an Honor' to Play with Nikola Jokić After Nuggets Contract

Russell Westbrook says he is "grateful" to get the chance to play with reigning MVP Nikola Jokic when joining the Denver Nuggets this fall.

"To be on the floor with him is an honor.

I'm grateful for that," Westbrook told reporters on Thursday (h/t DNVR's Harrison Wind .) Westbrook added : "This team has always been at the top of the Western Conference, always contending.

They play the right brand of basketball." Jokic similarly shared excitement about the Nuggets' decision to ink Westbrook to a two-year veteran minimum contract this summer.

"I know who he is," Jokic said, per Wind .

"Great teammate.

Work hard.

Leadership...I think he's a great, great player for us.

I think he's going to bring all the good stuff." Westbrook, who spent the 2023-24 season as a sixth man for the Los Angeles Clippers, is likely to back up point guard Jamal Murray this fall.
