Paige Bueckers' WNBA salary can't compare with No. 1 NBA draft pick's deal worth 175 times more

Should Paige Buckers become the first overall WNBA Draft pick on Monday as expected, she will complete what Cooper Flagg could not in winning a National Championship - but her pay won't come close to what he'll make in the NBA .
While Bueckers looks certain to be the first pick overall in the women's game , Flagg is in a similar situation in the men's, showing his qualities with Duke this past year.
But when Flagg signs his deal with the NBA team that is lucky enough to acquire his skills, he will sign a deal worth of around $60 million, at $13.8 million in his rookie year.
Meanwhile Bueckers is set to make $78,000 a year as the number one overall pick, in what is 175 times less than Flagg.
A new CBA agreement deal meant that rookies entering the league this year will see a bump in their salaries in the coming years, with Bueckers to make $85,000 in her second year.
However, that number will be dwarfed by Flagg's contractual details , who will continue to make anywhere between $13.8 and $15 million on his rookie contract - before potentially making as much as $60 million per year should he blossom into the player that many expect him to become.
Bueckers, nor any player in the WNBA will never make anything close to this if the current landscape of the league remains the same, something many believe will be tough to change.
When speaking on the extraordinary pay-gap between the two league's, Georgetown University sports industry management professor La Quita Frederick said: "The challenges facing women athletes, from pay disparities to limited media coverage, stem from entrenched societal norms [and] institutional biases...
that cannot be remedied by the actions of one individual alone." However, this could change in the coming years after the Womens National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) voted to pull out of the current CBA agreement .
Once the active CBA is officially opted out of following the 2026 campaign, player salaries are expected to skyrocket, but to what level is not yet known.
Unfortunately for the likes of Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese and Bueckers, their current contracts will not be altered so long as there are no retroactive changes - with those coming in the following draft class.
