LeBron James sees 20-year NBA streak come to end in final game of regular season

LeBron James' 20-year NBA streak of scoring 25+ points per game ended in the Los Angeles Lakers' final game of the 2024/25 regular season.
The 40-year-old, who endured an injury scare in the final weeks of the campaign , averaged 24.4 points per game this season for the Lakers as they prepare to contest the NBA playoffs, starting in the Western Conference.
However, it was James' first season averaging less than 25 points per game since his rookie campaign at the Cleveland Cavaliers .
It was the longest streak in NBA history, with no other player in the league's history matching James ' longevity and consistent scoring each season.
The Lakers will be the No.
3 seed in the Western Conference playoffs, a feat recognized by James with coach J.J.
Redick in his first season and shaking off some end of the season blues .
"Man I was going to say something but it's useless at this point in my career!" James cryptically tweeted.
"Anyways more important CONGRATULATIONS JJ on a 50 win season in the WEST & Post Season nod! That's [fire emojis]." Redick has had his fair share of doubters, particularly at the beginning of his tenure.
"But I think it was just for our group, different versions of this team for the guys that have been here all along, they went through every single peak and valley.
I think even this third iteration of this team has gone through a bunch of peaks and valleys," Redick said.
"Im just incredibly proud of our team.
Its an accomplishment to win 50 games in the regular season in any year.
I think particularly this year, in this Western Conference, it is, and its a credit to our players.
Each one at different points in time has contributed to winning.
Theyve all participated in a winning culture.
Our coaching staff, our performance staff, everybody down the line, its a great group to be a part of.
We want to go win one more game, and well figure out Sunday who we play in the first round.
Alongside James, the Lakers brought in NBA superstar Luka Doncic, which has significantly boosted their championship hopes.
Lakers guard Austin Reaves is confident the team is a contender.
As a team, I feel like we can win a championship, to be honest with you, Reaves said.
And the reason of that is I know that everyone in that locker room believes that and is also bought in to whatever your role is to help us do that.
You can go down the line with everybody in there and ask them what their role is and theyll tell you exactly what it is.
Were not unrealistic with each other, and thats what you have to be to be a good group.
You have to be honest with each other, thats why I give this coaching staff a lot of credit.
They come in and they implanted their system and they held guys accountable to whatever they ask them to do and everybody bought in to that..
