College football has become more and more like the NFL over the past few years, and the current situation with Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava is an unfriendly reminder of that.

Iamaleava and Tennessee have reportedly been in talks about a new NIL deal.

The quarterback wants to remain with the Volunteers but is unhappy with his compensation package .

It does not appear that the two sides are close to an agreement, however.

Iamaleava did not show up to Tennessees spring practice on Friday, according to ESPNs Pete Thamel.

He was expected to be in attendance.

Sources: Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava did not attend Tennessee spring practice today.

Hes been in conversations with Tennessee about a new contract.

The no-show of practice came as a surprise.

The sophomore wants a raise after other top quarterbacks across the country have secured more money than him.

In his first year as a full-time starter last season, Iamaleava threw for 2,616 yards with 19 touchdown passes and five interceptions.

He also rushed for 358 yards and three scores.

Iamaleava helped lead Tennessee to the College Football Playoff.

The spring transfer portal window opens on April 16, so Iamaleava is essentially holding out.

He will likely tell Tennessee that he is going to enter the portal if the school does not find a way to sweeten his NIL deal.
