Chicago Cubs catcher Carson Kelly hit for the cycle on Monday night in the first-ever MLB game in West Sacramento, Calif.

In an 18-3 victory over the Athletics, Kelly homered to lead off the fourth, singled in the fifth and doubled in the sixth.

He finished off the rare feat with a triple off the wall in right-center field that was just out of the reach of outfielder JJ Bleday.

It was the first Cubs cycle since Mark Grace notched one on May 9, 1993.

No Cubs catcher had hit for the cycle since Randy Hundley did so on August 11, 1966.

According to Elias, Kelly joins Joe Gordon and Mickey Cochrane as the only players in MLB history to hit for the cycle and draw two walks.

On Saturday, Cubs right fielder Kyle Tucker came a triple short of the cycle.

Kelly had just two career triples before Monday.

As a team, the Cubs knocked out 21 hits, 11 for extra bases, and drew 10 walks in a drubbing of the Athletics.

Advertisement Cubs manager Craig Counsell twice has had a first-hand view of an odd bit of history.

Kelly became the first catcher to hit for the cycle since Geroge Kottaras in 2011 for the Brewers, on a night in which Counsell started at shortstop.

No other No.

9 hitter had hit for the cycle since Chone Figgins in 2006.
